The Snapshots program is a carefully staged literacy resource of 84 books for Middle and Upper Primary that features cultural encounters across our world. Each trio of books provides a compelling insight into the lives and cultural heritage of children today and demonstrates how the heritage, culture and values of a country are exported to the world.

The countries featured reflect the diverse cultural groups which make up our schools today and include: Australia, Brazil, Cambodia, Canada, the Caribbean, China, Costa Rica, Egypt, France, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Nepal, Pacific Islands, Peru, Russia, Scotland, South Africa, the Arctic, Turkey, USA, Vietnam and West Africa.

About the series

Each of the four stages of Snapshots looks at a slice-of-life, past and present, of seven cultures. The social science focus of Snapshots enables children to explore and gain a better understanding of universal values to live by.
Across the program the cultural 'snapshot' of each featured country is gained through three text types:
Non-fiction Photo-essays that look at culture and identity through the eyes of a child or group of children.
Contemporary and Traditional Fiction from, or set in, the featured country that reflects the values, art and culture of that region.
Recounts/biographies that provide compelling retellings and historical recounts about a person from the featured country or their encounter with that country.
